United World Colleges (UWC) is unique. It is the only global educational movement that brings together students from all over the world – selected on personal merit, irrespective of race, religion, politics and the ability to pay – with the explicit aim of fostering peace and international understanding. High academic standards, a strong emphasis on community service and a wide range of cultural and outdoor activities are all part of the challenge and excitement of a UWC education. Today there are twelve United World Colleges, each with its own distinctive character, but sharing a common mission and core values. More than 34,000 students have graduated from UWC since the first College opened in 1962 – they can be found in all walks of life and they all share a determination to make a difference. The United World Colleges movement has its headquarters in London. Her Majesty Queen Noor of Jordan is President, and Nelson Mandela, former President of South Africa, is the President of the United World Colleges International Council. More information about the United World Colleges can be found at www.uwc.org.
